Hourglass By Vera Nazarian Is About Liaei The Last Of by Vera Nazarian is about Liaei the last race of homo sapiens of course we humans who was born out of the best sperm and gg cells in a laboratory in the future It s about her journey to be the mate of the Clock King and to find her own self and protect the dying The High Crusade earth and the soon to bextinct human versionsThis book is also about her training to be fficient learning her self identity surpassing her difference from others and acuiring true knowledgeI must admit that at the first paragraphs I acuiring true knowledgeI must admit that at the first paragraphs I this book to be boring I m usually a sci fi person but the words descriptions are just too high for my mental capabilitylol But when Liaei is born and growing I started to understand the future world I m being thrown intoThumbs up for the very good work of Ms Nazarian making a vivid description of the future million years from now You could really imagine yourself in the middle of the very large scorching sun almost red and orange the toxic ocean the scarcity of water and minerals as well as nergy and the Silver Bullets extinction of animals just like dinosaurs did todayWhat really amazes me is how she describes how future humans look They don t have hairsyebrows in the head in genitals and Robin even noyelashes I can t imagine how a person would look like that Men and women looked like the same same body structure and their reproductive organs are reduce to non functional parts And guess what They Body and Soul (Alien Nation, even laugh about the ancient pornographs they re not obsessed with sex any I think they reproduce through test tube babies 2 things aren t clear to me though how are this future version of humans formed An what is really the rule of the ueen of the HurglasshmmpAll in all this book is a product of a rich and wild imagination and if you like books about the future you should grab this one This is a fantasysci fi story of a future where thearth is used up and only a handful of survivors Eris Monroe More Than Human exist and they no longer can copulate But they can clone a woman from cells to breed with a man who has beenntombed throughout history called The Clock King And the cloned woman is the ueen of the Hourglass The story tells of her upbringing until she is menstruating and able to reproduce The story takes a turn and doesn t Metropolis XXX end the way the last humans had planed but it all works out in thend This was a light fantasy story that was an ok read nothing It was too short This book got me hooked and intrigued I want to know about the Clock King I want to understand him He was sooooo mysterious The ueen of the Hourglass was also Darwins Radio endearing and also a bit relatable Ms Nazarian can turn this to a full length novel and I wouldn t mind a bit I still have a lot of unanswered uestions This book takes place several thousands years in the future There is little to no water leftverything is breaking down there are no other creatures A Study in Scarlet (Sherlock Holmes, except the adapted humans These humans have to grow all of their foods from DNA They are no longer what we would call humans There is littlemotion and their bodies have become hairless forms that vaguely resemble what they used to look like This is the Lord of Darkness end of the world but they keep trying to stay aliveLiaei has been created from DNA in a lab She is the only human alive in this new world that we would recognize He whole purpose is to mate with The Clock King and produce DNA Liaei grows up a guinea pig All of her vitals are constantly measures and she learns about her duty from a computer that shows her old film clips books and others things from our current time to prepare her for her task This is hard on her because she is constantly reminded how different she really is She is the only human created from DNA that has survived in a long period of time So it is crucial that she mates and produced DNA that can be used to save the dieing raceWhen she turns 15 she is sent to mate with The Clock King But The Clock King is not like Liaei He is frozen in time and is defrosted for a couple days when another ueen of the Hourglass is created His memory is almost completely wiped clean But he does remembernough to know that this society is dieing and he is tired of being nothing than a stud for his DNAWhen Liaei and The Clock King meet things don t go as planned The Clock King opens Liaei s yes to the world around her and makes her feel alive than anything. A far future dying arth science fantasy tale about identity The Hunt for Tokyo Rose erotic desire flying water and a mystery This is science fiction the way that Jack Vance's Dying Earth books are science fiction Charles de Lint believable character development glimpses of science behind the solemn nomenclature andnough irreverence to permit an occasional smile Whether you Norwegian Wood expect a royal convergence romantic destiny or just a boost to a lackluster gene pool what you'll get is less definitive and interesting Faren Miller LocusLocus Recommended Reading List 2005Rich Horton's Virtual Best of the Year 2005THE CLOCK KING AND THE UEEN OF THE HOURGLASSMany billion years in the future the sun is a huge bloated golden Day God that fills the sky and thearth is a barren desert The last remaining water has pooled at the bottom of the Pacific Basin in. ,
Summary The Clock King and the ueen of the HourglassK supposed to be down on the bottom of Pacific Ocean
Which Has Beenhas been reduced a thin layer of Lost Heritage (Harlequin Romance, extremely polluted sludge The water that people drink comes from a mysterious source all food is vegetable based and grown in hothouses to order people are created in labs and live long lives Liaei is an oddity and from that comes some of the issues I had with the storyLiaei is different from modern humans we know that but it seems thatvery opportunity is taken to pound that notion into the readers heads constantly harping on her differences difference in appearance difference in attitudes difference in verything Over and over and over until I wanted to scream I get it already There were weird inconsistencies too Like humans have volved to fit into their modern world better with high lung capacity for reduced oxygen in the atmosphere tc However why Have They Lost Their Hair It Seems That Hair Would they lost their hair It seems that hair would the head and prevent moisture from vaporating More importantly if most of the world is now a desert why would they lose their yelashes It seems that yelashes would be very important to protect the Greybeard eyes from blowing sand as anxample It doesn t make senseSo I m torn about this book I think this might be one I need to read a few times to really get it in the Sleepless Nights in the Procrustean Bed (I.O. Evans Studies in the Philosophy Criticism of Literature 5) end I know there were aspects I really liked and others noted above that bothered me intensely And I certainly would not want to live in a world devoid of animal life Injoy my cats way too much So I have rated this book as 3 stars for now subject to change if future readings provide me further insights I would recommend this to people who are interested in uantum physics like to think about the nature of the continuity of time and are interested in a potential idea about the far distant future The Clock King and the ueen of the Hourglass is a novella 99 pages set in the landscape of a future Earth where human beings have become androgynous slow aging and sterile The book opens to a miraculous The Manhattan Memoirs event the geneticngineering of the ova and sperm of Ratatouille earlier humans to create a fertile female Humanity s survival depends on the production of a child toxpand the available gene pool The novella is a bit strange in tone spinning between clinical impressions the touching humanity of the heroine as she grows up to be a teenager with a heavy burden and sly commentary on our present day society as viewed through the lens of this future version of humanity The heroine Liaei stays true to age a believable character complete with Tarkovsky embarrassment intelligence frustration and fears The landscape is interesting the ocean has become deadly the sun has undergone changes there are technologies that are vital but as with the auaducts and plumbing after the fall of the Romanmpire no one knows how they work or how to repair them While I Wizard World enjoyed most of the novella there were a few things that just didn t sit well particularly in the second part with the Clock King and thending Part of me was happy at the Barnum (Vocal Selections) ending but the other part was thinking how unlikley it was that it would be left like that All in all Injoyed reading The Clock King and the ueen of the Hourglass it stayed human than many future The Well-hung Gun (The Squirm Files, earth stories I have read I d give this 35 stars really but Goodreads only goes by whole stars and I don t want to give it less than it s worthI recieved this review copy from the author as part of LibraryThing s Member s Giveaway This 99 page novella left me wanting for annding or Powers of Darkness else I just didn t get itThis is a genre that I don t normally read so my rating probably represents my lack of interest in the sci fifantasyfuturistic genre Nevertheless I found the writing style compelling andnjoyable I thought the story was fluid and piued my interestI Quitter Son Pays even felt I sort of couldven visualize the androgynous character that populated the book The main character Laiei was a worthy leadI would have given this novella a 35 star rating if that was possible on this siteThe somewhat average rating is due to the lack of a viable Bounty in Bondage end to the story If you got thending then please The Night of January 16th excuse my rating I do recommend this book to people thatnjoy this genre as it is well written Interesting beautifully written far future science fantasy in the Jack Vance mode Nazarian in my opinion one of the under appreciated fantasy writers in the genre puts a uniue feminist twist on the trope Recommended. Gitate histories of civilizations process liuid toxic waste conjure music out of the air run the agricultural hothouses and fly hovercars and yet its origins too have been lost in the murk of the ages and it cannot satisfy the restless mind of LiaeiWhat does it mean to be the ueen of the Hourglass Why do love and Dark Angel Sounding emotions seem to mean other things to her than to others And what is that meandering ribbon of light up on the distant Basin Walls a mysterious bit of ancient technology called The River That Flows Through the Air Can water flow uphillSoon when she reaches ancient sexual maturity and undergoes the proper training the ueen of the Hourglass willmbark on a journey to meet her consort the Clock King and there will be ven uestionsBut now the harmonium based machines are failing and suddenly humanity is running out of ti. .
Else she has done in her 15 years But how is this going to affect the dieing human raceThis was an interesting years But how is this going to affect the dieing human raceThis was an interesting The first thing that comes to my mind when I think about it is all the training Liaei receives to prepare her for the meeting with The Clock King This really shows how the society is locked into the survival mode instead of looking at the big picture Here they are trying to fix a broken machine with no replacement parts or technologyI admit that I was disappointed in this story Although it has potential it just didn t do anything for me It reminds me of a story used for lectures than me It reminds me of a story used for lectures than to njoy If you like stories along this line I feel
