Ssing out on anything spectacular I was completely disappointed in this novel and not because wasn t some good writing in it there was But my expectations were so high or it Even a particular blurb on the cover announced this Soucy The Time Paradox (Artemis Fowl, fellow this philosopher as being compared almost religiously to Samuel Beckett which got my attention and I wished it hadn t There were several clever lines in the book but not enough to override the lack of any delectablelesh Mon cahier Cardio pilates for me to mash my teeth on I was wishingor violence as promised shameful if not perverted scenes submitted or our mutual disapproval and the lack of any imagery or me Left The Fantasy A Bit the When Winter Comes fantasy a bit and even deadened upon my now too witless senses But we shall move on to what is next in our still growing ueue One highlightrom page 46 was this The other individual had a revolver in his belt which startled me because Sister Girls from the pictures I d seen I had always thoughtirearms were very small whereas in reality my goodness this one was as big as ather s balls If you have decided that it is long past time that you read War and Peace and Anna Karenina and you have by chance decided to read both of them over a two month period then this book by Gaetan Soucy is a wonderful novel to read in the middle of the two an excellent palate cleanser between Tolstoyan coursesI couldn t be pleased with my choice of light reading to serve as intermission between the two massive classics Little Girl is everything Tolstoy is not the mundane to Tolstoy s epic the perverted to Tolstoy s romantic the surreal to Tolstoy s realism the profane to Tolstoy s pristine I can t imagine a better palate cleanser maybe something comedic like David Sedaris but no I m glad that this was the shortest book at hand and I thank Karl or the recommendationThis recalled several other books I ve read or their unreliable narrators Sturgeon s More Than Human Banks s The Wasp Factory and even some classics like The Fall Notes rom Underground The Metamorphosis and Faulkner oh yes Faulkner Soucy also evinces Faulkner and Cormac McCarthy especially Outer Dark with his depictions of a desolate ignorant rural countryside In other words Soucy s traveling in good companyUnfortunately Soucy s book most reminds me of my least Death in Cyprus favorite of the above listed Wasp Factory Both came out in the same year so it s strangely coincidental that each combines the unreliable adolescent narrator an overbearingather surreal Unexpected Mate (Holland Brothers flourishes and most importantly view spoilera gender bending twist hide spoile.
